Ideas in geometric and other designs
Opposed to the forms of nature
Perhaps these painted marks
Should exist only as mental concepts
Their purpose never known to the uninitiated
And I am such.
Not that I dislike any of them
Indeed there are some whose provenance
Really does seem irrelevant
For they give
A peculiarly aesthetic satisfaction.
But for the most part
The uninitiated and I am such
Who would discard
Painting by numbers
Remain no more convinced by its inverse
Numbing by painters.
